So you could find out a bit more about the wonderful artists that will be at MiniComi this year, we asked some of them a few questions.
Here’s how one of the youngest artists this year, Amélie of ThoughtPlus, replied.
(questions are in blue)
Could you tell us a bit about who you are?
Hm. I’m 13, and I’m basically just a big nerd who likes to dedicate all her time to everything fandom related.
When did you start working with polymer clay?
When I was about 5 I liked to fool around with it, but I properly started about a year ago.
What is your favourite aspect of using polymer clay?
I just like the idea of being able to make a 3D model of anything my imagination cooks up.
What is your favourite tool to use for your art?
I think the ball tool is probably the most helpful.
Who has influenced and inspired your work?
All the TV shows, webcomics, books and anime that my life has been consumed by.
Who is your favourite fictional character by any author/designer?
Oh jeez, I don’t think that’s a question you want to ask (unless you have hours of free time). But I’d probably have to say Lapis Lazuli, Terezi Pyrope or Homura Akemi. I can’t choose just one!
What type of art currently fascinates you?
I love looking at paintings, fanart or not!
Which of your creations are you proudest of and why?
Hm, probably my Madoka Kaname. I spent over seven hours with the clay alone, and about two hours painting and varnishing it. I also think it accurately captures the essence of the character.
Which was the most challenging and how?
Probably my Shiro figurine from No Game No Life. Usually when I make figurines I just have them standing (with maybe a head tilt), but I tried to make her in a sitting position. I’m actually quite proud of how it turned out!
What are you looking forward to at MiniComi?
Like most conventions, I can’t wait to see all the amazing art! Also, its very fascinating to be consumed by all the fandoms.
Do you have a big dream or goal that you want to pursue?
I’d like to maybe start a business making clay. I actually have way too many hobbies and I’m not quite sure which one to follow, voice acting, animating, and editing being a few of them.
Is there anything else you want everyone to know about you or your work?
That every single one of my creations is made with extreme love. Especially if its fandom related.
