Artist Introduction – THE GOLDEN JOY BOYZ

We’re the GOLDEN JOY BOYZ here to bring you sick prints of you’re waifus

How did you start making art / doing what you do? When did you start?

Daniel: Started drawing personal anime fanart, but it wasn’t until I drew MLP fanart did I try and take drawing more seriously.
Gabriel: I’ve always been drawing. When I was 3-4~ I saw Goku turning into an Oozaru for the first time and I think that was what really got me thinking, “I wanna draw stuff like that!”

Is this your first Minicomi?

Daniel: This will be the first I will be tabling at.
Gabriel: This is #4 for me.

What is your fondest memory about your art?

Daniel: At a convention, the voice actor for one of the characters I drew really loved the print I made of their character. It was a big confidence booster at the time since I was starting out.
Gabriel: The first conversation I had with the girl I like was because she saw me drawing, so I guess that (〃・ω・〃)

What are your favorite tools/programs to use to create your pieces?

Daniel: PaintTool Sai and Photoshop CS6
Gabriel: I usually do the linework traditionally then colour with Sai/Photoshop.

Who / what inspires you?

Daniel: Friends, classmates at school, shows and real life experiences inspire me.
Gabriel: In the immortal words of Yeezy: “I inspire me.”

Artist Introduction – Jell

Hey, I’m ujelleesundae/Jell ( I am a paper-and-pencil kind of person, but once in blue moon I will pick up my drawing tablet and post something. I only draw cute anime stuff, don’t trust anyone that says otherwise.

You may find me nervously sweating, selling stickers, taking *free* drawing commissions, or a combination of all three at the same time.

How did you start making art / doing what you do? When did you start?

I started drawing out of boredom. When I was in grade six, my mom opened up a restaurant. My little brother and I had to stay there after school and we weren’t allowed to go home until after closing time, which left us with hours of nothing to do. We started doodling and sharing lame comics to pass the time. While he’s upgraded to playing online games, I’m still drawing.

Is this your first Minicomi?

It’s my first time participating as an artist, but I’ve been going since 2013 to annoy a specific table.

Who / what inspires you?

I have a soft spot for stories about the power of friendship and the slice of life genre. Anything that gives me warm fuzzy feelings or catches my attention and hypes me up. My favorite artists are the ones where I’ll come across their works and get the urge to draw right away. Some artists off the top of my head are Tatsuyuki Tanaka, Hayashida Q, and Gabriel Gamboa.

How did you come up with your artist name?

It’s a beautiful combination of puns ‘n stuff. ‘Jellee’ is my first name shortened by a friend who said it was hard to pronounce, ‘Sundae’ is a pun of my last name, ‘ujellee’ is a pun on a meme hopefully nobody remembers, and a jelly sundae is a kind of dessert.

What would you bring with you to a deserted island?
A year’s supply of chips and ice cream of various flavors. And lots of kittens.

Stay wonderful, gals and pals! See ya there.

Artist Page is Up

I did not do most of the updating this time (too much overtime at my real work) but the artist page is now live (thank you president :D). If you are an artist at MiniComi this year, please check that your artist information is correct.

There were quite some issues trying to get everyone’s images linked. All those who has not submitted an image or if your image does not work an Origami Cat placeholder is used.

The major reasons for your image not working is as follows:
– The link does not work (a few tinyurls resulted in error)
– The image was already removed when I tried to access it
– Those who have submitted images not in the right size as requested are automatically resized to 100 x 100 px by website code, so there are chances the resized image may not look as nice as your original image.
– TIF files do not work in links. I have re-saved your image to JPG by default.

If you wish to edit your information or image, please email them to me directly to the email below. Please include your Table number as shown on the artist page for easier looking you up. It is recommended to use sites which allow direct linking (such as when you submit the images to make things easier 😀

I’m Hazel Cheng, an illustrator! I work digitally, and occasionally dabble in watercolour and inks. Cute characters and whimsical subjects are my thing, just a way to have a good time and spread some fun and colour. My art blog is @ I’ve also got a facebook page @

Who / what inspires you?

When one works indoors, plugged in all the time, taking a breather outside is refreshing. I’m always impressed with nature and animal life! Honestly, I’d say everything inspires me, but you just never know when it will strike.

What are you trying to accomplish with your work?

I always have some grand idea of changing the way people look at things, or inspiring them to take action. I believe that illustration has the power to achieve these ends, so maybe some day.

What does ‘being creative’ mean to you?

Just making things.

What is a piece of advice you could give to newbies?

There’s nothing I can say that hasn’t been said, but I always like to say that fancy tools don’t make the artist. I appreciate good paper though, a good foundation is everything.

What other hobbies do you have?

I like hitting up thrift stores and garage sales for cute things. I collect a variety of toys, from little ponies to fashion dolls.

I’ll play nice, so drop me a line. I’m super excited to meet everyone!

Artist Introduction – Marie (Medusa Illustration)

Marie here, or you may know me on the world wide web as Medusa Illustration. I am a local Vancouver traditional artist who has a weak spot for fanart. I have always been in love with everything culture related, and thought why not combine fine art with fanart, So here I am. I have a few styles I work with, but I am mostly known for my semi realistic portraiture and vibrant watercolours. Although I do design tattoo’s and other commissions with my own unique flare.  This year I have a wide assortment of 20+ prints including things like Doctor who, Hannibal, Supernatural, Transformers, Legend of Zelda, Avatar, Marvel & Others.

To see all the things I am working on you can follow me on:

Is this your first Minicomi?

Yes in fact this is my first Minicomi! I always kept putting off getting a table because I always felt like I didn’t have enough art work to show. And like so many other artist, we tend to forget deadlines are a thing. This year I am ready to roll though!

Are you a professional?

Wow – I actually get to say out loud to the world “ I am a professional artist”. Everything in my life is related to art.  I recently graduated from Emily Carr University of Art and Design and am now on my way to becoming a tattoo artist.  I also am an Instructor at the Shadbolt Center for the Arts, so if any of my student see me, come say hello!

What’s your favourite piece at the moment?

Oh that’s tough, It would have to be my Winter Solider Painting, It just came out so dramatic looking.

What is a piece of advice you could give to newbies?

Alright listen up buds, stop comparing yourself to other artists. I know it’s hard to do, and It even sounds a little clique. Keep doing what you are doing, and develop it. As you change, your art will too. That is A-ok friend, don’t worry about it.

What is your favourite food?

To be honest -I like anything that will probably  give me a heart attack in 30 years or diabetes, or both? Both is good.  My main weakness are those thin minty girl guide cookies that they sell once a year. I can eat an entire box alone, in about 24 hours. And that’s with me trying to resist them.

See you all at Minicomi 2016.

Artist Introduction – Emi (thoughtPlus)

Hello! I’m Emi. I’m a sculptor and an artist, and I’m very into internet culture. I spend most of my time on social media and/or drawing/sculpting, and I have a pretty awful sense of humour  that mostly consists of terrible memes. I will be selling sculptures of popular characters, and perhaps some of my artwork!

How did you start making art / doing what you do? When did you start?

Well, I started making clay creations when I was around 7 years old, but I stopped for a reason I can’t really remember. I picked it back up in late 2013! And I’ve been drawing for my whole life.

Is this your first Minicomi?

Nope! I sold my stuff last year.

Did you take classes or are you self taught?

Self taught. sometimes I get certain techniques from other people, but I have never taken any classes.

What are you proud of? What are you trying to improve on?

For both art and sculpting I think I have to work on posing and getting the hair to not look stupid haha

What superpower would you have and why?

shapeshifting!! want to fly? BOOM transform into a bird! Want to breathe underwater? TRANSFORM INTO A SHARK YO

I’m really looking forward to coming and seeing all these amazing artists!! if you stop by my table feel free to say hi to me!

Artist Introduction – Suki (CrescentScript)

1. Is this your first Minicomi?
After moving to Vancouver in 2014, I heard about MiniComi too late to attend, so I went to 2015’s as an attendee! I’m very excited to sell for the first time this year!

2. Did you take classes or are you self taught?
Outside of Life Drawing classes from my very recent college course, all my art skills used for print and button art are self-taught. I’m still learning and practicing different techniques to improve my skillset :)

3. What are you trying to accomplish with your work?
I’d love to start a comic someday, when my funds and daily schedule allow for it >u< Alongside that, I’d love to make animated shorts~

4. What other hobbies do you have?
I sing and dance to J-Pop (Vocaloid dance shots, etc) in my spare time! The dancing is great for staying fit when gym memberships are expensive x’3 and I’ve been singing since I was 5 years old.

My art is always a work in progress, and I aim to make cuter things, rather than super detailed, realistic pieces. I hope that I can create something for everyone to enjoy!
